How to Rediscover Your Authentic Self After Significant Life Changes

This topic emerged in our 1st SIE gathering regarding the "new me" after maternity debate, but it resonates with so many significant changes, especially when speaking to a group of women who have relocated from abroad.

Just the act of moving to a new country is drama enough to leave you feeling lost in a new professional landscape!

Leslie Davis interview for The Washington Post  (really worth the quick reading)  tells the story of how she got lost in her own chosen new reality! And how she found an escape by making herself a priority and reclaiming her relationship with herself.

We get it, sometimes it's tough to figure out what would truly make us feel fulfilled.

So, here's a fun and simple exercise to try.

Think about what you want to feel—in this case, let's focus on finding fulfillment in your professional life. Then, aim to achieve small wins each day.

Reflect on your day and pinpoint just one thing that made you proud of yourself.

It doesn't have to be a big deal; it could be as simple as:

  • finishing a tough task;

  • lending a hand to someone in need (those 5 minutes of yours that could brighten someone else's day);

  • tidying up your workspace;

  • catching up on emails;

  • making a networking call;

  • or acknowledging something positive you did.

By celebrating daily these little victories, you'll start feeling rewarded and more tuned in to the things that bring you joy on a daily basis. This practice can guide you toward seeking this feeling, wanting to achieve more, an energy boost! And as a goal, finding what provides you fulfillment in your professional journey.

And the same goes for your personal life! Take some time to do something just for you. Then, celebrate it! Whether it's a small activity or a big one, you'll undoubtedly find something that makes you feel truly connected to yourself.

And of course, with maternity, even this little example can lead to a big behavior change!

Give it a try, and commit to turning it into a routine! Then, be sure to let us know how it worked for you!

Hoping to see you next week, same spot, right here on our blog!

Share with friends and woman you care about!
